On-Site Practice Management Consultation

An on-site practice management consultation is a comprehensive review of one's practice and its management activities. On-site consultations consist of an initial review of the previous three years of operations, goal planning, staff questionnaires, a three day on-site visit by a consultant, development of a customized business plan, quarterly financial reviews, a summary report, and one year of "open line" consultation service.

Prior to the consultant's visit, information will be obtained from the practice and a preliminary analysis will be done. Initial discussions with the practice owner help the consultant to ascertain perceived problems and goals of the practice. Past performance and the history of the practice are also reviewed to obtain a base line of information.

An operational audit of the practice will be conducted during the on-site visit. In essence, this is a comprehensive physical exam of the practice performed by a recognized authority in the field of Veterinary Practice Management. Once the "physical exam" is complete, the consultant will review with the practice owner those changes recommended and proposed for the practice and a customized business plan will be devised. The business plan, once finalized, serves as the basis for implementation. While on-site, the consultant will assist the practice to initiate and follow through with those recommendations that were mutually agreed upon.

Follow-up continues throughout the year following an on-site consultation, during which time, the consultant will remain in close contact with the practice. A written Summary Report will be sent to the practice after the completion of the on-site consultation to document and facilitate the implementation of the items listed within the business plan. Quarterly financial reviews will be done to help the consultant track the practice's financial health and progress.

Hopefully, this information should give you some idea as to the scope of an on-site consultation, although this is only a rough outline of what is involved. Because each practice and every practitioner is unique, it is our philosophy that the consultation process also should be customized to fit the individual. Therefore, if you are considering hiring a consultant or if you have questions as to how your practice could benefit from an on-site consultation, please contact us so that we can discuss your practice's needs and goals and see if an on-site consultation would be right for you.
